Tapper Funeral Service will be entering a team in this weekend’s New Milton Pedal Car Grand Prix (Sunday July 12).
Staff from the Ringwood branch will be taking part in the kilometre long circuit, which this year will head through the streets of New Milton.
Called the ‘Men in Black’, the team will be attempting to break their previous record in the Ringwood Pedal Car Grand Prix last year, where a broken chain relegated them to 38th place.
Mike Johnson, who took part in last year’s race, said: “The Grand Prix is a great community event. Thousands turn up on the day, and spectators seem to have as much fun as those racing. Last year’s race in Ringwood saw us lose quite a few places but this year we are looking to win!”
Steven Tapper, managing director of Tapper Funeral Service added: “The New Milton race is every bit as exciting as its Ringwood counterpart. Some quite harsh bends and turns make this one quite a challenge for riders.
“It’s great to know that an event like this can be enjoyed by both those taking part and those watching, while raising money to support local youth and charity organisations.”
Tapper Funeral Service’s Harbour View Woodland Burial Ground has not only been awarded gold once again at this year’s South and South East in Bloom Awards, but also won the overall large cemetery category.
The annual competition, which is sponsored by Southern Water, sees more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages across the south and south east showcase their environmental responsibility, community participation and horticultural achievement.
After Tapper Funeral Service fulfilled the judges’ criteria, which included design, horticultural management and environmental conservation, it was announced Harbour View topped the poll for the large cemetery category and achieved a gold award for a consecutive year.

Following Tapper Funeral Service’s annual summer picnic and music event at its Harbour View Woodland Burial Ground, the local funeral director has raised further vital funds for Forest Holme Hospice. Even though the summer event was hampered by a sudden storm, guests contributed £110.30 for the Poole-based hospice. More than 50 guests joined Tapper Funeral Service at the beautiful grounds to enjoy a picnic and a free evening of entertainment courtesy of The Quay Strings Quarter from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Tapper Funeral Service has completed a substantial investment which has seen the family-run business convert existing farm buildings at its Harbour View Woodland Burial Ground in Lytchett Minster, Dorset.
The new conversion has allowed the funeral company to offer a full range of services and facilities including chapels of rest, an innovative service chapel and new staff offices.
The investment means Tapper Funeral Service can now offer clients a comprehensive approach to a funeral, whereby they can have the service, followed by the burial and return to the barn for refreshments.
The interior of the chapel has been decorated to reflect the four seasons and uses colours to complement the surrounding grounds at Harbour View.

Local funeral director, Tapper Funeral Service has appointed Simon Spendlowe as senior manager and funeral director at its Christchurch branch.
Previously based at the company’s funeral home in Poole, Simon will now be responsible for the day to day running of the Christchurch establishment as well as organising bespoke funerals and working with Tapper’s additional branches in New Milton, Highcliffe and Milford-on-Sea.
With more than 25 years’ experience within the funeral industry, Simon aims to increase awareness of Tapper’s long-standing professional service, as well its pre-paid funeral plans and hugely popular Outlook Bereavement Support programme in the Christchurch community.
With diplomas in funeral directing and funeral service management through the National Association of Funeral Directors, Simon has extensive experience within the industry.
Commenting on his new appointment, Simon said: “I have worked for Tapper Funeral Service for more than eight years and I am excited for this new career challenge ahead. This is a great funeral home to be working at, offering excellent facilities and experience from a highly dedicated team. I’m looking forward to getting involved with more local initiatives. I am a former resident of Bargates and a keen sea kayaker who spends many happy hours, with my family, paddling in Christchurch harbour.”
Simon has a Master of Science degree, in which his academic research is the first of its kind to be carried out in the UK. He is also the past president for the Bournemouth and District Association of Funeral Directors and provides training to the core sector in bereavement.
