Poole residents invited to be part of the greatest story ever told

Dorset’s largest community theatre production, Through the Eyes of a Child, will bring a spectacular procession to the streets of Parkstone in April, in which organisers believe will become a new tradition for Poole.

The play, which tells the story of the last days of Jesus Christ through the perspective of a child, is organised by the independent theatre group, Poole Passion.

Following a series of successful events, Poole Passion plans to run the performance every two years. The community theatre group is inviting residents from Poole and surrounding areas to one of five performances between April 9 and 12, four in the evening and one Saturday matinee.

Supported by the BBC Performing Arts Fund, the ticketed production will start at Parkstone United Reformed Church, where the entire cast and audience will parade through the streets for the final scenes at St Peter’s Church.

Writer and artistic director, Sharon Muiruri said: “The most important reason for the production is to create a community and bring people together who would probably never usually meet. It’s also about striving to create a piece of theatre with high production standards.”

Community involvement is vital to the Poole Passion group; its acting talent comes from a cross section of the community, from those as young as four, all the way up to the age of 89.

Poole resident, Sue Stoddard enjoyed last year’s performance. She says: “The play was extremely moving and brilliantly acted. The range of age and diversity of actors was great. A great sense of achievement was obvious.”

Local organisations have also pledged to support the production including the charity, Action on Addiction, who produced a table for the Last Supper scene and Tapper Funeral Service who kindly provided storage space for the play’s larger assets.
