Wave 105’s Big Drive Home presenter, Rick Jackson, and commercial director, Jon Brooks, are taking on the Great South Run in Portsmouth, this Sunday.
Attracting 25,000 runners each year, the Great South Run takes place on Sunday 23 October, starting at Southsea, Portsmouth. The 10 mile course sees runners, make their way through the iconic sights of Southsea and Portsmouth, including the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower, before finishing on the seafront, with the picturesque views of the Isle of Wight in the background.
As the official radio partner, the Wave 105 street team will be on hand to cheer all who are participating in the various races over the day, along with the Wave 105 Hop On Inn bus. Presenter, Andy Jackson, will be updating listeners from the course throughout the day on Facebook live and live on air.
David Hart, communications director at the Great Run Company, said: “This year is the 26th staging of the event in the city and it has become a real festival of sport, with 25,000 people taking part for fun, fitness and fundraising across the weekend, which also features the Great South Run 5k and the Junior and Mini Great South Run.
“We wish Rick and Jon the very best of luck in taking on their 10-mile challenge. See you on the start line!”
Wave 105’s commercial director, Jon Brooks, said: “Over the years various presenters have taken part in the Great South Run and it’s always a great day out!”

AFC Bournemouth has announced Wave 105 as its official commercial radio supporter for the seventh season running.
The Premier League club has chosen the south’s leading radio station to communicate its latest news and team developments to its regional fans, strengthening its presence on a grass roots level.
Commercial director at AFC Bournemouth, Rob Mitchell, said: “Our ongoing partnership with Wave 105 plays an integral role with helping the club to connect with the local community. We are delighted to be strengthening these ties as we work with the south’s leading radio station for the seventh season.”
As with previous years, Wave 105 will be offering listeners exclusive ticket giveaways for select AFC Bournemouth home games throughout the season, in addition to other promotional opportunities.
Jon Brooks, commercial director at Wave 105 said: “Our involvement with AFC Bournemouth allows us to support our listeners by broadcasting the most up-to-date news regarding their local team. We are excited to continue our support to help raise the club’s profile both on air and online.”

Wave 105’s managing director Martin Ball has been honoured with the gold award for outstanding achievement at the Bauer Media Awards 2016.
More than 2,000 people celebrated Martin’s achievements with a standing ovation at the Copper Box at London’s Olympic Park where he was recognised for his outstanding performance and service to Wave 105 and the Bauer Media Group.
Martin has enjoyed a media and radio career spanning four decades and has been the driving force behind Wave 105’s success, since its conception in 1998. He has also assumed the role of chairman and trustee of the Wave 105 charity Cash for Kids.
Celebrating its 18th birthday this month, Wave 105 is the south’s leading commercial radio station reaches an audience of 553,000 people every month.
Martin added: “I’m delighted to be honoured with this award as we celebrate our 18th Birthday. I’m very proud of our achievements but never lose sight of our ambition to consistently deliver engaging and relevant content to our audiences that reflects life in the south.”

Wave 105, the south’s biggest radio station and official radio partner of Bournemouth Air Festival, is thrilled to announce current chart stars Imani Williams and Calum Scott, will be joining Travis at Wave 105 Night Air “Hits On The Beach” event at Boscombe Pier this August.
Bournemouth Air Festival “Night Air At The Piers” entertainment in conjunction with Wave 105 and sponsored by Shorefield Holiday Parks, will run across three nights (Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August) offering a range of music to suit all tastes and ages, supported by stunning night flying displays.
Rising star Imani Williams is the vocalist on DJ Sigala’s number one hit ‘Say You Do’ also featuring DJ Fresh and will be performing at Wave 105 Night Air on Friday 19. Imani has also collaborated with Sigala on her recent debut solo single ‘Don’t Need No Money’, which also features club and chart stars Blonde who also perform at Night Air on the Saturday night.
Britain’s Got Talent star Calum Scott is currently the most successful new British recording artist of the year and has also confirmed he will be performing at this year’s Wave 105 night ‘Hits on the Beach’ also on Friday night. Calum’s single ‘Dancing on My Own’ has been in the top 40 for three months and as of this week, is now in the top five. Calum’s audition video for Britain’s Got Talent has had nearly 70 million views on Youtube, and he signed a worldwide recording deal with Capitol Records last month.

Wave 105 has teamed up with Halo to present headliners Example and DJ Wire, with support from Blonde, plus DJ’s Jaguar Skills and Majestic – a line up guaranteed to get the crowd dancing on the sand against the backdrop of the setting sun over Boscombe beach.
“Proms on the Beach”, hosted by Wave 105’s Kate Weston, returns to Night Air for the second year running on Thursday August the 18th. After hugely positive feedback last year, “The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood” returns for a very British affair by the water’s edge.

Travis will play Night Air’s Friday evening family pop night ‘Hits on the Beach’.
