TAC shortlisted for prestigious industry awards

Poole-based T.A Colbourne (TAC) has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry accolade at the Construction News Specialist Awards.

Selected from a record number of entrants, TAC has been chosen as a finalist for the Project of the Year (subcontract over £2M) Award, for the company’s involvement in the build of the Ben Ainslie Racing Building (BAR).

TAC began works in October 2014 to construct the steel structure framework and encasing envelope for the iconic building which is home to Britain’s America’s Cup sailing team. The team provided more than 700 tonnes of fabricated steel to produce a water tight envelope in record time, enabling the racing team to move in at the end of May as scheduled.

Director of T.A Colbourne Tom Colbourne said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the construction industry greats for our work on the innovative BAR building. This project is a shining example of what can be achieved by collaborative working and non-adversarial management techniques.

“When TAC was briefed for this project the design was far from complete, but despite this and the very exposed site, a dry envelope was achieved by February 2015. Overall this was a fantastic achievement by the team and the supply chain who should all be very proud.”

The next stage for the specialist contractors for commercial, industrial and public sector buildings is to present to a panel of judges made up of some of the leading names in the country’s largest construction companies and projects.

Now in its 12th year, the Construction News Specialists Awards are the only national awards which celebrate the very best specialist contractors in the UK.  With 18 categories, the awards aim to recognise and showcase the achievements of specialist contractors of all sizes and specialisms.

Construction News editor Rebecca Evans commented:  “Construction News is proud that its Specialists Awards are the only national awards recognising the achievements of specialist contractors, whose hard work and innovation fuels the success of the UK construction industry.”

The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony among the industry’s elite on 24 February 2016 at the Hilton Park Lane.
