Junior hairdresser is a cut above the rest

Synergy Hairdressing is proud to announce that one of its junior stylists and trainees, Laura Bolter, is now fully qualified and able to start building her own client base across its salons in Blandford and Poole.

Laura recently qualified as a stylist, having completed her NVQ at Bournemouth College while training as an apprentice at Synergy. In addition to her recent qualification, Laura has also been awarded ‘Apprentice of the Year’ by Bournemouth College. This is a prestigious award which highlights a student’s hard work and achievements throughout the academic year. Laura is the third stylist from the Synergy family to have won this award.

Laura said: ‘‘I am so grateful for Synergy giving me the opportunity to be an apprentice at their salon while I was studying to complete my NVQ. I am excited to grow in the business and look forward to showcasing my skills on the local Synergy clientele as I will be involved with all aspects of hairdressing.”

Owner of Synergy Hairdressing, Colina Currell, added: “It’s wonderful to see young people such as Laura be given the chance to learn and flourish within our company. Laura is the perfect example of what sheer hard work and passion can achieve. She has impressed us from the get-go and we look forward to seeing Laura continue to grow in confidence as she climbs up the career ladder here at Synergy. ’’

Laura is now available for appointments in Synergy’s Blandford salon on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Thursdays and Saturdays in Synergy’s Poole salon.

Synergy celebrates the ‘older’ lady

With increased national interest in the secrets of a youthful appearance, owners of Poole-based salon chain Synergy Hairdressing, Colina and Steve Currell, decided to host a night where their loyal clients of a certain age, were treated to a free blow dry and a glass of bubbly.

Upon arrival guests were asked to fill out a questionnaire in order to discover their secrets to ageing gracefully or disgracefully. The general feeling was that it all comes down to being yourself and finding your own style.

Colina explains: “We have had a lot of very strong beautiful women of all ages walk through our doors since we opened our first salon nearly 20 years ago. Nothing leaves us feeling more fulfilled than seeing the ‘older’ fabulous women who come to our salon leaving with an extra bounce in their step and oozing with confidence. That is why I wanted to dedicate a night to honour these ladies and encourage them to continue feeling good about themselves.’’

Clients gain confidence from complimentary hair and beauty treatments

Inspired by their daughter’s five year remission following Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, owners of Poole-based salon chain Synergy Hairdressing, Colina and Steve Currell, are celebrating the success of ‘Mondays at Synergy’ since it was originally introduced last summer.

On the first Monday of every month, the Synergy team opens its doors to provide cancer sufferers with customised haircuts and head shaves, gentle blow-dries, wig washes, reiki therapy, hair and scalp masques. Make-up and nail services were also provided by Athena Beauty, all completely free of charge.

Synergy Hairdressing has been touched by the strength and courage of those who have shared their personal battle against a disease which has affected many friends, family and clients. Owner, Colina Currell, has been particularly drawn to 22 year-old Natasha Coleman from Bournemouth, who first visited the salon in April for styling of her recently grown back hair.

Coincidently like Colina’s own daughter, who is also called Natasha, she finished having treatment for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in November and is now in remission following major spinal surgery. Natasha also originates from Durban in South Africa where Colina first trained as a hairdresser.

Colina explains: “We have had a lot of very strong beautiful women of all ages walk through our doors since we decided to offer complimentary treatments. I hope we can continue to offer love, touch and understanding to anyone who needs a quiet personal space, whilst receiving a little TLC via hair and nail treatments. What also makes this time special is seeing new friendships develop amongst the ladies who have been coming to us regularly. ‘’

‘Mondays at Synergy’ launched on Monday August 4 2014; the service will be offered to clients on the first Monday of every month between 10am-1pm.  Synergy always welcomes new faces to turn up and enjoy their services.

20 years of Synergy Hairdressing

2015 has got off to a great start for Synergy Hairdressing, marking 20 years since it opened the doors to its flagship Poole High Street salon in 1995.

Prior to opening Synergy, founders and owners, Colina and Steve Currell, gained experience working in salons across the globe, from South Africa to Australia.

In recent years, Synergy has rapidly expanded across Dorset with additional salons now open in Blandford, Ashley Cross and the latest addition which opened in 2014, Penn Hill.

Owner, Colina Currell, says: “We have been working to consistently build the Synergy brand over the years, and our latest venture enables us to expand our client base further, while also offering our existing clients a greater variety of services.”

One of Synergy’s many loyal clients, Diane Ferris, gushes about her favourite hairdressers: “Synergy consists of fabulous people, who create fabulous hair. 20 years of Synergy means 20 years of friendship and bliss. I look forward to my appointments because I am made to feel like a new customer during each visit.’’

Synergy’s ethos is to promote ‘Love, touch and understanding, with five star service and style.’ Colina and Steve Currell have most recently displayed this ethos having been inspired by their daughter’s five year remission from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The couple launched ‘Mondays at Synergy’ at the end of last year, where complimentary hair and beauty treatments are given to clients who have been diagnosed with cancer.  This occurs on the first Monday of every month between 10am-1pm.

Colina adds: “This is something that lies very close to our hearts. Like too many others, we have battled with the effects of cancer in our family. The support network during such a hard time is essential, and I hope this is something Synergy provides, as well as offering much needed pampering.”

Synergy has also begun its search for a Dorset resident to become the ‘face’ of the brand. The winner of the competition will be announced in the Spring and will front Synergy’s marketing campaigns throughout the year. The winner will also receive a photo shoot and £500 towards services in the salon.

Synergy is a Dorset legacy which has grown from strength to strength in the past 20 years. It is apparent that the team has made its mark on the county, and will continue to make their customers look and feel amazing.

Synergy Hairdressing expands with fourth Dorset salon

Dorset Hairdressing chain, Synergy, has expanded its portfolio of salons further with the introduction of a fourth outlet in Penn Hill, Poole.

Owners Steve and Colina Currell opened their original Poole High Street salon in 1995 and subsequently opened in Blandford in 2008, followed by Ashley Cross, Poole in 2011. Penn Hill, with its recent opening of vibrant restaurants and coffee shops, was deemed the natural next step for the growing hair brand.

Colina Currell says, “It is important for us as a company to spot opportunities and grab them with both hands. This new outlet gives us the chance to retain key staff by offering them appropriate positions across the group, and enables our client base to expand and enjoy the variety of services we can offer across the four salons. We are excited by the early response to the new Penn Hill salon, which is capturing an audience based further east of the conurbation than we’ve ever reached.  We believe we sit comfortably amongst the other Penn Hill brands who are clearly thriving in this environment.”

The new salon is managed by Daniel Pryke, who joined Synergy Hairdressing in 2004 as a junior apprentice, before working his way through the ranks to become manager at Parr Street. Now one of the best creative stylists in the Synergy team, Dan is a Redken colour expert, a specialist in men’s styles and a ladies stylist.

The company’s collective experience is gained internationally from Australia and South Africa, as well as from London and across the UK. Significant investment is made in staff training and development and an ethos of ‘love, touch and understanding’, underpins the brand values of the organisation. A recent initiative inspired by a salon in New York has seen Synergy’s introduction of free hair cutting and styling for those suffering from cancer on the first Monday of every month in the Poole High Street salon.
