Who will be named the Dorset Business Award winners of 2016?

Entries are now closed for the annual Dorset Business Awards, in association with the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo, and the judges are deliberating over who will be crowned the Dorset Business Award winners of 2016.

Organised by the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the prestigious business awards programme is looking for winners across 11 categories;

• VoIP Unlimited Business Engagement with Education Award

Backed by the south’s leading radio station Wave 105, the Awards has welcomed three new categories to its roster this year. Four new firms have come on board as sponsors, including two past winners – TeamJobs, 2015 Lester Aldridge and Santander Company of the Year Award winner and The Training Room, 2014 Business Growth Award winner.

A team of three judges will analyse each entry form against the individual award criteria set out for each award category. Judges have until Friday October 7 to shortlist three finalists for each award, a total of 33 from the submitted entries.

The “Meet the Finalists” drinks reception on Monday November 14 will see the finalists of 2016 network with fellow finalists and awards sponsors. The overall winners will be announced at the Ice Kingdom themed Awards ceremony at the Windsor Hall in the Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday November 24.

Dorset businesses large and small are being urged to get their entries in for this year’s Dorset Business Awards (DBA), in association with the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo, before submissions close at midnight on Sunday September 11.

Businesses of all sizes, which are based in Dorset with a BH or DT postcode, can enter one or more of the 11 categories:

From gaining invaluable media attention and increasing business profile to acknowledging the achievements of staff and opening doors to securing new contracts, a range of opportunities come from being a Dorset Business Award finalist.

Past winners have come forward to provide top tips on submitting an entry for firms considering entering.

“The most important tip in my opinion”, says Jason Gault from TeamJobs; “is to get the company involved. You will look at your business in a way you probably haven’t done before and I guarantee you will learn something that will make you a better business.”

Sam Boshier from Hamworthy Heating adds: “Plan your entry before writing. List out the main points you want to get across and how they meet the award criteria.”

Region’s esteemed awards now open for entry

Sponsors of the 2016 Dorset Business Awards, in association with the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo, have begun their annual mission to search for the very best examples of Dorset’s business successes following the launch of this year’s Awards at The Italian Villa, Poole, on Wednesday June 15.

 

More than 100 guests attended the launch event, sponsored by Tower Park-based motor dealership Breeze Volkswagen, to kick-start the competition.

 

Organised by the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also backed by one of the south’s leading radio stations, Wave 105, the awards look to acknowledge dynamic Dorset companies, successful entrepreneurs and flourishing employees who have assisted in driving the region’s economy forward.

 

Eleven awards are open for entry this year, including three new categories. Four new firms also join the prestigious sponsor line-up and this includes two past winners – TeamJobs, 2015 Lester Aldridge and Santander Company of the Year Award winner and The Training Room, 2014 Business Growth Award winner.

 Categories are as follows:

The winner of this award will be able to give details of community initiatives, particularly those that involve employee engagement, and illustrate the impact these have had on the local community.  Any Dorset school, voluntary organisation, charity or local community initiative can nominate a local business to enter this award but the nominated business will need to submit the entry.

 

  1. Creative and Digital Impact Award, sponsored by Liz Lean PR and The Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) – new award / new co-sponsor

This award recognises the talent and contribution of the creative and digital sector in Dorset by celebrating a project or a campaign that has made a measurable and significant impact to the commissioning client or business.

  1. Emerging Business Award, sponsored by The Training Room – new award/new sponsor

The winner of this award will honour an organisation experiencing significant growth in the last three years. Businesses will be shortlisted based on their leadership, financial performance, expertise in their sector and the positive impact they are making on their employees.

 

  1. Entrepreneur of the Year Award, sponsored by Bournemouth University

This award will honour an entrepreneur, team or company who have demonstrated the realisation of their entrepreneurial vision.  Judges will look for evidence of success on how obstacles have been overcome to achieve success and how the business has benefited the economic and social well-being of Dorset.

 

  1. Francis Clark Family Business Award

This award will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of family businesses that are innovative, adaptable and make an impact on the Dorset business community. The winning business will be judged on longevity, number of generations the business has survived, profitability, internal culture and involvement in the community.

 

  1. Investing in Dorset Award, sponsored by UK Health Insurance – new award/ new sponsor

An award celebrating those Dorset businesses who proactively support other businesses in the county for the benefit of the local economy. Short listed companies need to demonstrate how they are engaging and trading with other Dorset based businesses and promoting business in Dorset.

 

  1. Lester Aldridge and Santander Company of the Year Award

All-round business excellence will be the prerequisite for this award. To be in the running to be named Dorset’s premier company, businesses need to demonstrate an outstanding financial track record, with strong sales growth and a commitment to increasing profitability.

 

  • 8.       Nuffield Health Excellence in Customer Service Award

This award will recognise the business that can demonstrate across its practices a commitment to providing the very highest level of customer service and in doing so be described as truly customer focused.  Judges will look for entrants who have listened and responded to customers’ needs in order to gain a thorough understanding of their customer base.

 

  1. Retail Experience Award, sponsored by the Dolphin Shopping Centre

Open to any retailer based in Dorset, the Retail Experience Award will be presented to the retailer recognising and delivering clear entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen and excellence in customer service.

 

  1. Team of the Year Award, sponsored by TeamJobs – new sponsor

This award offers a unique opportunity to recognise the hard work and professionalism of a team who have exceeded expectations and made a real contribution to the success of a business. The company should nominate and enter the award on behalf of the team.

 

  1. VoIP Unlimited Business Engagement with Education Award

The winner of this award will have established a positive partnership with a local school, university or education programme to help develop the skills of the future work force. This award should only be entered by the business and not the school or educational organisation.

A night of triumph for Dorset

It was a triumphant night for the county’s business community as the winners of the 2015 Dorset Business Awards, in association with the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo, were announced in front of a packed house at the Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday November 26.

Organised by Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, more than 700 guests were welcomed at the Hollywood glamour-themed gala dinner by the host, respected broadcaster and journalist Jonty Bloom.

With the introduction of a brand new category for 2015, ‘VoIP Unlimited Business Engagement with Education Award’ bringing the total categories up to 11, this year’s event was the largest in the Awards’ history with a record number of guests in attendance. The Awards took place in the Windsor Hall to accommodate all the sponsors, finalists and guests.

The winners received an impressive Dorset Business Award trophy, while all finalists were honoured with a bottle of award-winning sparkling wine from Dorset-based Furleigh Estate. To allow guests to carry on the celebrations, 1812 Bar & Restaurant opened its doors for the after-party.

Ian Girling, chief executive of Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “This year’s event was the largest in the history of the Awards. Not only did we receive a remarkable amount of entries across the highest number of categories, we were also honoured with a record number of guests who attended to pay tribute to the outstanding businesses we have thriving within Dorset.

From initiatives such as ‘pond watch’, a weekly litter pick of the local nature reserve, to working with schools and young people, the company was able to demonstrate it had made a positive impact on the local community.”

Judge Mark Pillow, managing director of VoIP Unlimited, said: “LoveLove Films won due to its achievement with each individual put through its scheme. The scheme takes on approximately 30 placements a year, the majority for a timeframe of between two weeks to a month. With more than 100 students receiving direct benefit and 100 per cent of the placements having taken on further work from this, some placements even securing jobs for Ridley Scott, LoveLove Films has had a very successful year with not only this scheme but its new apprenticeship scheme too.”

The wait is finally over for businesses across the region as the judges reveal the finalists who made the grade for the 2015 Dorset Business Awards, in association with the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo and the South’s leading radio station Wave 105.

More than 30 judges have deliberated over 139 entries to select the top Dorset companies who have made the prestigious shortlist. The region is abuzz with business as this year’s high calibre finalists stretch from Poole to Portland, Sherborne to Bournemouth and Christchurch to Dorchester – highlighting the importance of the Awards to Dorset’s business community.

The winning firms will be announced at the Hollywood glamour-themed Gala Dinner Awards ceremony at the Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday November 26. Hosted by respected broadcaster and journalist, Jonty Bloom, the evening will comprise a drinks reception, followed by a sumptuous three-course dinner and a private after-party at 1812 Bar & Restaurant.

Entertainment for the night will be provided by Neive Jordan, a talented performer with an exceptional voice who will set the scene for a memorable evening. A prestigious Dorset Business Award trophy will be presented to the 11 worthy winners while the other finalists will receive a bottle of award-winning, Dorset based Furleigh Estate sparkling Classic Cuvee.
