Poole-based Synergy Hairdressing is proud to announce that one of its junior stylists and trainees, Louis Glover, is now fully qualified and able to start building his own client base.
Louis comes from a family of 14 generations of hairdressers. His grandfather, Spanish born Francisco, was well-respected in the industry and was scouted by famous hairdresser, Peter ‘teasy-weasy’ Raymond. In the 1950s Francisco came over from Spain to work at Raymonds before going on to set up his own salons in Bournemouth, ‘Franciscos of Spain’.
Francisco was a stylist to the stars, including British actress, Anita Harris. He was also responsible for training Marc Young, who is highly regarded in the industry.
Louis grew up hearing tales of his grandfather’s talents and became interested in the profession, he comments:
“My granddad was such an inspiration to me when I was growing up, as he has worked with some wonderful people in his lifetime and he really got me passionate about hairdressing. He, along with some influence from other family members who are also hairdressers, made me interested in pursuing a career in the industry.
“I began training when I was 16 in an apprenticeship programme and have worked my way up from there. Now I’m qualified I will be responsible for building up my own clientele and will be involved with all aspects of hairdressing from washing to cutting, colouring and blow drying.”
Louis adds: “I feel that I’m meant to be a part of Synergy, as when I was chatting with one of my clients, Truda, recently I discovered that she used to work for my grandfather all those years ago! Truda began working at Raymond’s in Bournemouth before following my granddad to his own salon – now Truda comes to have her hair styled by me, what a small world!”
Owner of Synergy Hairdressing, Colina Currell, said: “It’s wonderful to see young people such as Louis grow and flourish within our company. We believe in regular training for our staff and will continue to invest in Louis’ future so he can work his way up the career ladder. Truda, who is one of our regular clients, was so thrilled to meet Louis and discover the connection between them. She told me that she can see many of the same qualities in Louis that she saw in his grandfather, very much a perfectionist who pays great attention to detail!”

The team at Poole-based Synergy Hairdressing are celebrating following their award win for ‘Best Facebook Marketing’ at the annual Top of the Shops (TOTS) event.
Now in its eighth year, the TOTS awards (sponsored by Sibbett Gregory and Breeze Volkswagen) celebrate the hard work, innovation and dedication of Poole’s retail stars.
Salon owner, Colina Currell, said: “We are living in a digital age and we realise more than ever that our customers are requiring us to interact with them via social media channels.
“Facebook is a great tool for us, we love showcasing what we can do for our clients and potential clients via this medium.
“Over this past year, our team has been working exceptionally hard to build our Facebook followers and to make our content as engaging and interesting as possible for them. So when we heard we had won an award for Facebook Marketing at TOTS we were absolutely thrilled!”
Hannah Mayo, Poole town centre manager, said: “This particular award was judged by the amount of posts the Synergy team had made on their Facebook page within a certain time period. The judges also looked at the type of posts that were made, for example, the mix of social and professional posts, of which Synergy had a fantastic mix of both. They also had the most ‘likes’ out of all of the businesses that entered the award, and therefore had the greatest reach.
“Synergy have clearly worked very hard to build up an interesting and accessible Facebook page for their customers, and should be proud of their achievement at TOTS.”
TOTS award categories included: Best Overall Retailer – Multiple & Independent, Best Customer Service – Multiple & Independent, Best Window Display – Multiple & Independent, Best Individual Customer Service, Best Facebook Marketing.

Synergy Hairdressing has opened its third salon, ‘Synergy on Parr Street’, making the company one of the fastest growing independent chains in the region.
Established 16 years ago with its flagship salon in Poole High Street, Synergy introduced a second two years ago in Blandford Forum which has already almost equalled turnover to the original outlet.
With an overall business turnover of almost half a million, Synergy is in the top 10% in the South West for sales of GHD stylers and products, and the top 5% for Redken products, generating almost £60,000 of sales for Redken alone in 2010.
This most recent addition to the portfolio, in Ashley Cross, Poole, aims to support the main salon in Poole by offering convenience to new and existing customers from the east of the conurbation. It has also been created to nurture staff, allowing them to develop within the Synergy family.
Colina Currell, proprietor, is pleased with initial response to Parr Street. She says; “the buzz of Ashley Cross is very much where the ethos of Synergy sits and we have been looking for a suitable premises there for a while. Finding the Parr Street salon has provided key members of the team the chance to develop and manage their own outlet whilst giving our brand growth too.”
Believing that nurturing good staff is the lifeblood of the hairdressing industry, Colina continues; “We are fortunate to have a loyal team of talent and it is critical to our survival and evolution that we allow them to develop within the company. Lead stylists and managers, Natalie Hole and Daniel Pryke have been with us for many years, and they were both ready for the next challenge; they have taken real ownership of the new branch and it is as much their responsibility as mine to make it work. We are all very excited about the prospect Parr Street brings for us.”
The salon plans to host a series of community and pampering events with the first being major involvement in the Ashley Cross Royal Wedding street party, planned for the afternoon of the 29th April in the roads surrounding St Peter’s Church. Hosting free children’s activities and hospitality, the Synergy team are looking forward to meeting the wider community.
I was pleased to pop into the new Synergy salon in Blandford over the weekend and hear how well received it has been by the local fashionistas.
Since opening their doors in June 2008, Vicki and her team have really settled in and had a successfully hectic couple of months infusing the market town with contemporary and classic cuts and cool, creative colouring. I also discovered something that I wanted to share with you…all appointments booked will receive a full consultation on colour and cut and…most exciting…entry to a free make-over with the Synergy team that includes style and make-up advice. If Synergy have their way we will all look as good as their promotional photos!
