Celebrating 20 years in the industry this month, Bournemouth-based window fabricator Connaught Windows has a lot to be proud of. Where other companies in the region have floundered due to the recession, this family-run business has continued to manufacture and supply a wide range of products, quietly building a solid reputation with both local and nationwide retailers.
From its humble beginnings as a small window fitting company in 1994, to becoming one of the south coast’s longest-standing window manufacturers, Connaught Windows has produced enough windows and doors in its 20-year history to supply approximately 5900 homes; the equivalent of all of the homes in the City of London, while its yearly usage of glass would be enough to cover the outside of The Gherkin!
While the company prides itself on being local, manufacturing 45 different products right here in Dorset and using locally extruded aluminium and PVCu profile, the total miles of window used since it opened its doors in 1994 would reach approximately 6900 miles, or the distance from London to New York and back again if laid end to end.
Linda Witczak, director at Connaught Windows, said: “While the last few years have been challenging, with some careful, strategic planning and wise investments in top of the range machinery that streamlined our approach to manufacturing, we have successfully weathered the storm of the recession and in 2013 saw a 14 per cent increase in our turnover over the previous year.”
