A team of young entrepreneurs from Parkstone Grammar School have been honoured with a communications award from the prestigious sandbanks-based PR agency Liz Lean PR (LLPR).

The award was one of four titles scooped up by the 10 strong group of talented girls from team ‘Zimu’ at the Enterprise Challenge Awards 2013.

Offering students the experience of running a small business, the Enterprise Challenge requires teams of young people to examine sales, marketing and production methods to successfully sell a product of their choice.

The Liz Lean PR sponsored Communications Award assessed how team members communicated with their colleagues as well as how communication methods were used to promote products.

Managing director of Liz Lean PR, Liz Willingham, said: “We are delighted team Zimu have been recognised for their exceptional communication skills. Communication, both internal and external, is such an integral part of running a successful business and these young women have really taken that on board to their well-deserved success.”

Mentored by major local manufacturer Hamworthy Heating, team Zimu were also awarded the Magellan Aerospace Manufacturing Award, the DEK International Team Work Award and Young Entrepreneur of the Year – awarded to team Zimu Managing Director Maddy Forster.

Awards were based on group performance throughout 2013 when teams met weekly with their business mentors, attempted different methods of production and marketing and attended trade fairs across Dorset and Hampshire.

Liz Willingham went on to say: “The Enterprise Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to experience first-hand the highs and lows of running a business. As an employer, it is definitely something I would be impressed to see in CV’s for those applying for jobs in the future, so we are proud to offer our support to this impressive scheme.”
