Wave 105 is the official radio partner for Whiteley, a new shopping experience due to open on May 23. The radio station has been providing on-air support for the campaign throughout the recruitment stage of the new development and will continue to do so until the opening of the £84 million retail scheme.
25 retailers were present at the recruitment day on 27th March at the Solent Hotel, Whiteley where more than 4,000 hopeful applicants attended. The day gave a chance for local people to find out more about the type of vacancies on offer, as well as an opportunity to speak to retailers directly.
All the retailers who attended said that this was the best recruitment fair they had ever attended in terms of attendance, organisation and promotion.
Once open, Whiteley will boast a strong line-up of more than 50 stores, restaurants and cafes, many of which will be new to the area. Confirmed retailers include: Bank, Boots, Claire’s, Clarks, H&M, JD, Mamas & Papas, Moss, M&S, Next, Paperchase, River Island, Schuh, SportsDirect.com, The Entertainer, Topshop, Prezzo, Frankie & Benny’s, Starbucks and Costa Coffee, amongst others. Seven independent retailers from the conurbation will join the line-up, and a monthly market will feature local retailers and producers from around the area.
Martin Ball, managing director of Wave 105, said: “Whiteley is one of only two retail developments to launch in the UK this year and is an exciting new centre in Hampshire. The opening of the centre comes at a time when many retail schemes have suffered from the tough economic climate and the offering of hundreds of new jobs in the area is a welcome opportunity.”
