Wave 105 presenter Mark Collins is set to fulfil a lifelong dream by officially naming the new Class 66 Diesel Locomotive ‘Swanage Railway’ at Swanage Railway Station.
Officiated by Swanage Railway acting general manager Matt Green and GB Railfreight managing director John Smith, the naming ceremony will see train aficionado Mark name the GB Railfreight locomotive on Thursday May 7 at 1.30pm.
Wave 105 morning show presenter Mark comments: “I’ve always been a railway enthusiast ever since my grandmother used to take me to the station to watch trains in my pram. My career has seen me work for French Railways and make the two series of Trainspotting for the Discovery Channel, so it is a great honour to be asked to name one of GB Railfreight’s Class 66 locomotives. It’s the icing on the cake for any fan of Britain’s Railways.”
Matt Green, Swanage Railway acting general manager, adds: “It’s a real pleasure to be taking part in the ceremony and to give Mark Collins the opportunity of naming the GB Railfreight’s new Class 66 locomotive. To be named the ‘Swanage Railway’ is such an honour for the station itself and all who work with us to keep our line running.”
In addition to the ceremony, guests will be invited aboard Swanage Railway’s fine dining train, the ‘Wessex Belle’ to enjoy light refreshments while the idyllic sweeping views of the Purbecks roll past.
