The donations to the Wave 105 Cash for Kids Mission Christmas toy appeal have now been collated and counted up and have reached an incredible 15,113 toys, double the amount collected in 2011.

Since its launch on November 12, the Wave 105 charity team has been blown away by the generosity of listeners, local businesses and sponsors.

All the thousands of toys have been sorted according to gender and age and will now be collected by various charitable groups, social services and women’s refuges who will wrap and distribute to those in need this Christmas.

All of the toys donated during the Wave 105 Mission Christmas appeal are bought new, meaning that every child receiving a gift gets something that is boxed and especially just for them. It also ensures that the toys and gifts that these deserving children receive are the highest quality.

2010 X-Factor winner Matt Cardle and CBeebies star Chris Jarvis joined Wave 105 presenters who have been broadcasting live from Sainsburys stores in Dorset to encourage shoppers to kindly buy and donate an extra gift.

Wave 105 Cash for Kids charity manager, Gloria Hill, said: “The 2011 appeal collected 7,695 toys, so we are thrilled that this year’s appeal has doubled that figure. So many have got involved including school children, college classes, local families, local businesses, choir groups, individuals, people came out in their thousands during the last few weeks to support us.

“We’d like to thank all of our listeners for donating such a fantastic number of gifts this year. Unfortunately the need gets greater each year and even though times are tough for so many, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response and we’re very pleased to be able to help local children have a happy Christmas.”
