Further to becoming an official supplier to the Sahara Force India Formula One™ Team, Poole-based telecommunications firm VoIP Unlimited invited the Southampton University Formula Student Team (SUFST) to visit the factory at Silverstone.

Members of the SUFST team, which is sponsored by VoIP Unlimited, recently competed in Formula Student; Europe’s most established educational motorsport competition. The team had just nine months to design and build a single-seat race car from scratch before racing at Silverstone.

The Sahara Force India Formula One™ factory tour allowed the team a privileged insight into how a Formula One car is created. The students viewed the race control centre, the workshops and design studios, the trucks that are taken to the European races, and the R&D and testing labs.

Team Leader of SUFST, Dan Castro, said, “We’re so grateful to VoIP Unlimited for giving us the opportunity to see the inner workings of a Formula One™ factory and have a tour around a place where many of us would like to see ourselves working in the future!”

Head of PR at Southampton University, Joanna Barzycki, said, “It was really interesting to have a Formula One™ visit with the all amazing engineering work going on. It is my ambition to work in motorsport communications and public relations so this was a wonderful insight for me.”

Sahara Force India was delighted to show the up-and-coming student engineers the factory and demonstrate the logistics behind the workings of a world class team.

VoIP Unlimited is committed to helping students and young people develop skills for the workplace. The company is also a keen supporter of Dorset’s ‘Enterprise and Skills Challenge’, an employability skills programme inspiring entrepreneurial behaviour in young people.
