Superior, a Dorset company which attributes a significant part of its success to an apprenticeship scheme it provides, is holding an exclusive event on Thursday March 17 for local engineering and manufacturing companies. The event will showcase the positive difference apprentices can make in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week taking place from 14 to 18 March.

The free event, titled Everything You Wanted To Know About Apprenticeships But Were Afraid To Ask, will take place from 7.30 – 9am.

Superior, based in Ferndown Industrial Estate, currently has 19 apprentices going through its Superior Academy programme, which accepts candidates directly from school at 16, A-Level students or university graduates, and the company will announce its apprentice of the year at the event.

Tim Brown MBE, and managing director of Superior, was inspired to start the academy by seeing the success of similar schemes the business’ customers in Denmark and Germany were running.

Alumni of the programme have gone on to get jobs in a variety of fields, including manufacturing, material technology, engineering design, sales and marketing, accounts and computing information technology.

Tim said: “We’re very enthusiastic about training young people. Our Superior Academy programme has been very successful and we’ve started to show best practise to other companies in the area – we have a lot of visitors who come to see what we’ve done. For an SME, we like to think we’ve established ourselves as a bit of a role model in regards to apprenticeships.

“We started to see results very quickly from the young people we were training. They became very capable and we realised that it wasn’t just a theory but was having a very significant benefit to the business. Some early apprentices are now senior staff because of their abilities. So it’s something we can help with locally in Dorset, and beyond.

Tim concluded: “We’ll be inviting local companies to our event to give them an insight into what we have done. We can prove, by the people who have come through our apprenticeships, how quickly the investment pays off.”

Spaces at the event are limited and booking is essential via Eventbrite.
