Following a formal tendering process, Poole Harbour Commissioners have appointed international consultancy firm Ramboll to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment necessary to refine, optimise and finalise their long-term masterplan for the Port of Poole.

Port and transport planners, environmental scientists, archaeologists, specialists in ecology, contaminated land, water, noise and air quality will all be involved in the work, which is expected to take approximately a year to complete.

The assessment, which will be made up of a number of studies, will assist the Commissioners in their final decisions about the future of the Port and Harbour, based on concepts already set out in the existing draft Port masterplan.

Poole Harbour Commissioners’ CEO, Jim Stewart says; “We’re really pleased to be working with a multi-disciplinary team from Ramboll, who were chosen for their relevant expertise and knowledge for this critical piece of work. It will be an objective study undertaken by renowned experts, focussing on a range of important issues. We fully recognise that Poole Harbour is a much loved and important feature of the Dorset coastline. Ultimately, the study will enable us to define realistic proposals to ensure the long term sustainability of this port.”

Nick Clarke, Head of Ports and Marine at Ramboll, said: “We are pleased to be selected for this important study. Our expertise will identify a clear development route to help the Commissioners secure the future of the port and harbour.”

Poole is a strategically important south coast Port that requires a master plan to guide its development through the next 30 years.

The Commissioners have undertaken extensive consultation with local businesses, residents and interest groups since September 2011.
