Staff at Penn Hill’s lively café, restaurant and bar, Jenkins & Sons, have turned their hand to brewing as well as serving real ale with the launch of their own American IPA, Yippee Kai Ale.

In attempt to position itself as experts in craft beer, the team at Jenkins & Sons went to Bath Ales, which is home to a number of award-winning real ales, to create their own unique recipe.

The five per cent citrus infused amber ale was made with the slightly spicy and very piney chinook hop and the grapefruit flavored summit hop and rested in dry hopped casks for two weeks.

Mark Cribb, the new owner of Jenkins & Sons, said: “We were looking for a new challenge but something that fitted in with our style and our obsession on sourcing the best beer.

“Our regulars have been very positive about the new beer and we’re confident it’s going to do really well.”

Producing just 18 exclusive barrels, the equivalent of 1,300 pints, Yippee Kai Ale can only be purchased at Jenkins & Sons as well as Mark’s other venues, including the award-winning Urban Beach and Urban Reef.

Mark added: “Britain is in the midst of a craft beer revolution and is falling back in love with this historical tipple. It’s been so exciting to chat to some of the brewers of craft beers.  The love these guys put into creating truly unique and balanced flavours is so exciting.”

Jenkins & Sons is open daily from 9.00am to 11.00pm and offers 14 lines of British craft beers and ciders. For further information visit: www.JenkinsSons.com  or call 01202 746604.
