Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) and the Bournemouth Daily Echo are continuing to celebrate Poole’s vibrant harbour by launching its third photographic competition category dedicated to Poole Harbour’s spectacular wildlife.
PHC and the Echo are encouraging readers to submit their wildlife photographs by October 28 for the chance to win a day trip to Jersey or Guernsey for two adults, plus a car, courtesy of Condor Ferries.
Poole Harbour is a well-known wildlife hotspot supporting a very large number of birds and is an important feeding stop for birds on migration. The Harbour is also considered an ideal habitat for otters and seals, and this year a number of dolphins have been spotted just outside the Harbour.
The four-month competition, which has been incorporated into the ‘Have Your Say’ section of the paper, will run until November with photographs submitted for each month’s theme appearing in print.
A prize will be presented to each category winner, and at PHC’s Open Evening at the Port of Poole in November the four winning photographs will be judged against one another to select an overall winner.
Jim Stewart, chief executive of the Poole Harbour Commissioners, says: “Poole Harbour is a haven for birdlife from wintering waders including avocet to visiting waxwings from Scandinavia.
“Brownsea Island is also home to a variety of wildlife, including a thriving population of the scarce and threatened red squirrel and Sika deer.”
To enter, email your wildlife picture to phcphotocomp@bournemouthecho.co.uk and include the words Poole Harbour Photographic Competition in the subject line.
Entrants must include their name, age, address, telephone number, email address and a brief description of the location or event and time of year.
