Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) has continued to show its support for major yachting events in Poole by sponsoring this year’s International 2.4 Metre World Sailing Championships which has been arranged by Poole Yacht Club.

The world championships kicked off on Friday September 6 and will finish on Saturday September 14. It’s the very first time Poole has hosted the sailing regatta and PHC is pleased to welcome the 80 athletes from 12 nations that are currently going head-to-head in the unique event.

Although the 2.4mR is best known in Britain for being the Paralympic single-handed boat race, the International 2.4mR is the only class which is open to both able-bodied and disabled sailors, male and female, competing in the same boats.

Poole Harbour Commissioners, chief executive, Jim Stewart, said: “It’s fantastic for Poole to be hosting one of the most unique sailing events on the international racing calendar and we are pleased to welcome a stellar cast of Paralympic and both able-bodied and disabled Worlds medallists.

“PHC is very keen to help promote and support these types of events taking place in Poole Harbour, as not only does it encourage a welcome to event organisers but it also brings increased business for the traders and businesses on the Quay and the town.”
