Lizzi Briscoe, manager of Patrick’s Restaurant, Bar and Event Catering in Ashley Cross, will run the Brighton Marathon on April 6 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The 25 year old from Poole hopes to raise more than £1000 in sponsorship for the charity which helps sufferers and their carers cope with dementia.
Lizzi was inspired to run the 26 mile marathon for the Alzheimer’s Society after her Dad was diagnosed three years ago with early onset of dementia aged 59 years.
She explained: “My Dad has just been transferred to a care home as his dementia has progressed; it’s been a difficult time. My friend’s Mum has also been diagnosed recently with early onset of dementia, so we are buddying up to run the marathon together. I chose to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society because they are so supportive of carers and families as well as doing great work with dementia sufferers.
“The charity also commits funds to dementia research, so although I know there isn’t anything at this time that can help my Dad recover from this progressive disease, I hope the funds I raise will help someone else in the future.”
So far Lizzi has raised more than £700 and hopes to raise a further £300 to make a £1000 donation on completing the marathon.
She added: “Everyone has been so supportive with their donations – especially customers at Patrick’s. A lot of our customers have been coming in for years so they all know me very well and have been very generous with their sponsorship.”
