Patrick’s Bar, Restaurant and Event Catering in Ashley Cross has launched a gluten free menu.

The menu aims to give those who suffer adverse reactions to gluten, commonly known as ‘Coeliac’ sufferers, a wide variety of meal choices and ranges from smaller bites such as gluten free toasted sandwiches to a full range of larger dishes such as Thai green curry and slow roast pork belly.

The new menu also extends to the restaurant’s event catering branch, where gluten free options can be requested for both large and small gatherings.

Jeni Pedley, General Manager of Patrick’s Bar, Restaurant and Events Catering, said: “Everyone should be able to enjoy a meal out or a special occasion without worrying that their menu choices will be limited or boring, I have seen first-hand the impact of this and how stressful dining out can become for people since my Dad was diagnosed as a Coeliac. This is why we have designed our new gluten free menu and made it as diverse as possible.

“Interestingly, many people requesting gluten free options may not be Coeliac suffers, but simply on a health kick. Whatever the case, it’s our aim to provide our diners with a variety of choices and a worry free, enjoyable meal or event” she commented.

Found in wheat, barley, and rye grains, gluten is a protein ingredient found in a huge range of food products from pastas, rice, dough, bread, sauces and salad dressings to soups and some alcoholic drinks.

The NHS reports Coeliac disease (where sufferers have an adverse reaction to Gluten) is a common condition that affects approximately one in every 100 people in the UK. Adverse reactions to gluten for Coeliac sufferers include headaches, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pains and lethargy.

As well as those who suffer with Coeliac disease, research also shows one in four people have a general intolerance to Gluten, whose needs Patrick’s will now be catering for.
