Can the weather get any worse? Every day we look out across Poole Harbour and the rain is coming down thick and fast. Is this what we need to expect for the rest of the summer?

Our new intern arrived a week last Monday looking like a drowned rat, Carol is refusing to sail on a Thursday evening and the entrance to our office is stashed with umbrellas of every colour. Being optimistic as ever we won’t let this weather dampen our spirits, excuse the pun. As for the next few months there is one rather small event everyone seems to be talking about. Its official, Olympic fever has hit Dorset!

Today is dry…well so far, but most importantly it’s the day the Olympic torch comes to Poole and Bournemouth. On the 56th day of its tour, the torch will make its way through the streets of Poole around 4pm and then onto Wallisdown in Bournemouth at 6pm, where the torch will embark upon its final route for the day, ending at Bournemouth Pier. The cauldron will be lit at around 7.20pm where our very own Lisa B will be waiting, one of the 11,999 revellers who will celebrate the evening in style (the very lucky few as she likes to continuously remind us). With performances from Wretch 32 and Britain’s Got Talent performers ‘Twist and Pulse’ a firework finale will conclude the spectacular event.

Chloe, Lisa I and Liz are not jealous at all after celebrating the launch of Kathryn Thomas’ latest collection last night. The evening was a huge success with a great turnout, amazing goody-bags and some scrummy food from The FJB Collection. Kathryn’s studio is open today, Friday July 13, for one day only, to mark the Torch Relay passing by the studio door. Her work features oil paintings inspired by a variety of natural light shows across the area, so if you have the chance do pop down and look at her amazing work.

We’re all in agreement that this may be the worst summer we have ever experienced, but we keep praying the heatwave will come soon. With spectacular events being held in the south throughout the summer, with the sailing in Weymouth, Bournemouth Air Show plus the water and beach sports festival, ‘Windfest Re-tuned’, we could all do with some nice weather!
