-Autism Friendly Screening of Rio 2-
In support of World Autism Awareness Day, the ODEON Dorchester will be showing an autism-friendly screening of the movie blockbuster Rio 2 on Sunday April 6 at 11.30am.
The alternative screening is recommended to anyone who might benefit from the subtle alterations made to the cinema environment. The screening will have reduced sound levels, the lights will be kept to a low level and the trailers and adverts will be removed to enable people with autism to feel more relaxed. There is also an allowance for an increase movement and noise within the auditorium. Guests are reminded not to run inside the cinema and children should be supervised at all times.
The autism-friendly screening is designed to make the cinema experience more accessible to guests who might find mainstream screenings challenging. The screenings are run in partnership with learning disability and autism support provider Dimensions.
Cinema-goers now have the opportunity to book tickets for this screening of Rio 2. The family adventure Rio 2 sees Blu swap the urban life in Rio for a tropical voyage in the wilderness of the Amazon. The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Andy Garcia, Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx, Will.i.am, Kristin Chenoweth and Bruno Mars.
Alan Escott, general manager at ODEON Dorchester, says: “This screening will give those with autism the opportunity to enjoy Rio 2 in a relaxed environment. The performance will have subtle changes which mean people with sensory difficulties have a more positive experience. Our hope is that, as guests become more familiar with the cinema environment, they will begin to feel comfortable with attending standard screenings.”
ODEON Dorchester host specially-adapted autism-friendly screenings of new releases one Sunday each month at 11:30am. ODEON was the first cinema chain to partner with Dimensions to offer nationwide autism-friendly screenings.
