Dorset’s first private cardiology suite has enabled consultants to perform more than 600 cardiac procedures since opening 18 months ago.

As part of a major £5 million renovation project, Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital opened its state-of-the-art cardiology suite in October 2015. It has since provided the facilities for patients to receive a full cardiac service including echo, out-patient diagnostic and an in-patient day case cardiology facility.

David McNair, Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital Director, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the cardiology suite. The procedures undergone at the hospital can allow people to go on and live perfectly healthy lives. It’s important to seek medical advice as soon as you are aware of any symptoms you are experiencing.”

Cardiac department staff nurse, Natasha Burton, said: “If you or someone you know is experiencing palpitations, shortness of breath, dizzy spells or blackouts, you should seek advice from your GP.  Healthcare is available for a reason, but sometimes we see patients that have suffered from chest pain for a long period of time before they visit their doctor.

“If someone has been concerned about a heart issue for a while, or new symptoms are worrying them, they can also visit the rapid access cardiology clinic, which is available every weekday and staffed by leading consultant cardiologists at the hospital.”

Nuffield Health Bournemouth cardiology suite also provides assessments of future cardiac risk to minimise chances of cardiac problems such as a heart attack or stroke.
