Pukka Pads is sponsoring a Poole-based mountain bike racer ranked number one in the world UCI Marathon Rankings.
The stationery company’s contribution has helped Sally Bigham, an elite level marathon distance mountain bike racer, compete at ‘Cape Epic’ at the end of the month.
Last year Sally won the ladies category competing against 1,200 cyclists over eight days.
The annual mountain bike team race, which is held in South Africa, is approximately 800 kilometres and Sally will be riding for Wheels 4 Life, a charity that provides bikes for people in developing countries in need of transportation.
Sally said: “Without Pukka’s support I wouldn’t have been able to compete in this year’s race. Cape Epic is very special to me and I didn’t want to miss being part of one of the best stage races in the world.”
Pukka Pads managing director, Chris Stott, said: “Sally is Poole’s best-kept sporting secret and we’re delighted to have been able to help her compete. The Pukka team has its fingers crossed that Sally can bring the prize back to Poole.”
Sally started mountain biking in 2006 and joined her racing team, Topeak Ergon, in 2009. This is her second year as a full-time professional mountain bike racer and she already has three consecutive national titles.
Cape Epic starts on March 25 and you can keep up-to-date on Sally’s progress at topeak-ergon.blogspot.com.
