Leon Twinning and Bug Busters winner Keeley Twinning with Cherry Bear and Cherries striker Yann Kermogrant

Winner of the AFC Bournemouth and Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital schools project, Keeley Twinning, cheered on the Cherries against Sunderland for her Premier League prize on Saturday September 19.

Eight-year-old Keeley’s winning poster was selected out of more than 100 entries from schools across Dorset who participated in the free ‘Bug Busters’ workshops.

Re-launching this month (October), the ‘Bug Busters’ programme provides local schools with a series of free workshops and interactive football games on how to prevent germs and bacteria spreading and causing sickness, which can greatly impact on a child’s performance at school.

Following the sessions, the children are invited to design a poster reminding match day football fans to wash their hands.

Player ambassador Simon Francis said: “Keeley’s winning ‘Cherry Bear says wash your hands’ poster is currently in pride of place on the walls of AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium as a gentle reminder to our visitors of the importance of personal hygiene in a public place. It was great to see Keeley enjoying the match and cheering on her local team from the stands.”

At half time Keeley and her dad were invited onto the pitch to have their picture taken with Cherry Bear and Cherries striker Yann Kermogrant.

David McNair, Nuffield Health Hospital Director, added:  “With winter almost upon us it is a key time to teach schools how to keep germs at bay. It was apparent from our previous sessions the children really take these lessons on board and we are looking forward to seeing what posters are created this year.”

The deadline for this season’s ‘Bug Busters’ poster competition is Friday February 12, 2016 and the winner will receive a family ticket to see AFC Bournemouth take on Swansea on Saturday March 12, 2016.

Schools interested in finding out more about the sessions are invited to contact Steve Cuss at AFC Bournemouth on 01202 726342, or to contact the hospital’s customer services team on 01202 702830.
