Wave 105 account manager Suzy Jacques has just returned from a six day trek along the Great Wall of China in aid of Cash for Kids.

Suzy was joined by brave Wave 105 listeners Harry Worth from Ferndown and Mandy Giddings from Lyndhurst and Wave 105 presenter Andy Jackson. It was a huge challenge both mentally and physically for Suzy who admits she’s not a naturally, sporty person.

“I moaned the whole way during the Sahara Trek challenge two years ago but it was very good preparation for this,” reveals Suzy.

However, nothing could prepare the team for the sheer drops, where sections of the stony ancient wall that was twisting and winding its way along the mountains suddenly disappeared in front of them.

Commenting on how she tackled this scary, new challenge, Suzy says: “The majority of what we climbed were crumbly old steps, but I just gritted my teeth as I scrambled up and down the sheer path and thought of the poor children that would benefit from my discomfort.”

By completing the trek, Suzy has managed to raise a staggering £4,222 for Wave 105 Cash for Kids charity, which helps children who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.

“I firmly believe in this day and age no child should go without their basic needs being met for food, clothes, education, health needs, guidance and support for their future,” Suzy explains. “I am so proud to have completed this trek and to give something back to the community in our listening area by raising money for this worthy charity. We all feel a phenomenal sense of achievement now it’s all over, it was amazewalls!”
