Leading global financial services firm J.P. Morgan has confirmed its support for Dorset’s most prestigious award programme, the Daily Echo-backed Dorset Business Awards, for the second year running.

This year, J.P Morgan, which has had a presence in Bournemouth for more than 25 years, is sponsoring the Business Engagement with the Community Award to acknowledge outstanding Dorset businesses that honour the tradition of putting something back into the local community.

Judges will be seeking to identify finalists that can demonstrate they are building positive links with the region’s community. Any business based in Dorset can enter this award or any school, voluntary organisation, charity or local community initiative can nominate a local business but the nominated business will need to submit the entry.

Dorcas Williams, vice president, communications, at J.P. Morgan, says: “The Business Engagement with the Community Award seeks to recognise businesses in Dorset that have shown real commitment to the local community. J.P Morgan is sponsoring this award because the company is dedicated to active community involvement. Our ‘Supporting the Community’ programme provides a wide range of assistance to local voluntary organisations, charities and schools, including practical support, equipment donations, volunteerism and fundraising activities. Through this programme, we aim to play an active role in helping the local community achieve its potential.”

Business Engagement with the Community Award checklist
Entrants should include details of the following:
• Evidence of initiatives or projects undertaken that impact on the local community. For example community projects, social causes, education, employee volunteer schemes, environment and recycling schemes
• Background details to these initiatives or projects, how they were developed, implemented and the length of time that they have been operating as well as employee involvement
• A summary on the impact that these initiatives or projects have had on the organisation

Stalbridge-based Dike & Son Ltd won this award in 2011 because the judging panel were impressed by the number of different community initiatives the company introduced. It was recognised that Dike & Son Ltd has dedicated time and effort to bringing the community together through its ‘Making a Difference Locally’ programme.

Commenting on winning Andy Dike says: “We were thrilled to achieve ultimate recognition for the work we do with our local community, which we believe is a massive part of our business. To be judged the winner over such prestigious finalists was an amazing experience and one which was celebrated with the team at the store. Awards like this lift everyone’s spirits and reward hard work. Winning an award created further awareness of our small town of Stalbridge in North Dorset, which is the community where Dike and Son has been since 1851.”

He adds: “Since receiving this award we continue to work with many local charities and organisations. Due to energetic fundraising by our team and customers alike, our “Making A Difference Locally’ fund has contributed more than £15,000 to local causes in the past four years. This all adds up to an enduring ethos of customer service, service to our community and a great pride in being part of it.”

The Awards are free to enter and entrants can submit an entry via www.dorsetbusinessawards.co.uk or print off an entry form and submit a paper-based entry. The closing date for entry is Friday September 14.
