Liz arrival at JFK

Our managing director has touched down in New York for a week working alongside fashion and luxury eCommerce experts, King & Partners. She gives us the lowdown on her first day…

Settling into a local’s perspective of life in New York City has been extraordinary today yet it also feels like the most natural thing in the world; it really has an air of familiarity about it. After arriving at JFK yesterday and waiting almost an hour to get through passport control, the cab ride into the city was enlightening and the amazing light hit me immediately. Seeing the Manhattan skyline and hearing the familiar sights and sounds of the city was overwhelming.

New York skyline

I wished I’d had a day to adjust to the time difference and the travelling before  heading to my first day at the office but the buzz of waking up to the skyline  and a beautiful blue sky made me want to be up and at’em!

King and Partners is a digital marketing agency which goes above and  beyond for its clients, which include Kenneth Cole, Mary Katrantzou, Elie  Tahari, Asprey, Delpozo, and Edition Hotels. Based in Great Jones Street,  Noho, right in the heart of the city, the road is unusually quiet and features  galleries and a spa. There is more to discover…..

Web development, creative direction, strategy and technology (they have  developed their own platform, Sellect.com) is the crux of their services and  like us at Liz Lean PR, their instinctive understanding of their clients,  integrity, and passion for taking creative leaps for them is a trademark. For  me this trip has a multi faceted focus; looking at cutting edge digital in  action, the crossover and understanding of our own craft in that context,  creative immersion, agency growth and development, contrasts of agency life in a polar opposite environment, and you name it…..more, more, more!

I’m soaking the vibes up like a sponge. Monday morning team meeting at 11am; after welcoming me to the team this week with a clapping of hands, a roll out pursues of client activity updates, new business pipeline….calendar planning….then time discussing Business Development with the lovely Tamara, my desk neighbour. Already I see reassuring synergies between our agencies that are miles apart in every way.

Lunch was enjoyed at Il Buco – a delight, and a great introduction to New York food. A little Italian with bags of character and understated decor in Bond Street just around the block from the agency. The steak was to die for, the atmosphere intimate, and was enough to make me an addict for this city already….

Liz with NYPD Later, I had to get a photo with the NYPD buying their coffee  in http://braziliacafe.com as I waited for my super green smoothie (sorting  out the jet lag hopefully)! Apparently it is rare to see them smile and to be so  obliging……must be my English charm ha haa!

No arrests yet for jay walking (as predicted by my team) and I am excited for  what tomorrow brings……
