Hall & Woodhouse (H&W), the leading independent family-owned Dorset brewer, has launched its new chef apprenticeship programme in partnership with Bournemouth & Poole College.

Starting this month, the Level 2 Commis Chef Standard Apprenticeship will provide the students who have enrolled onto the course, with the skills and qualifications required to work in H&W’s pubs across the south. These pubs include H&W Portishead in Bristol, The Grasshopper in Poole and the Olive Branch in Wimborne.

The apprentices will undertake training in ‘block release’ at Bournemouth & Poole College to gain invaluable experience of food preparation and cooking activities, as well as gaining knowledge on how to maintain a clean, safe and hygienic working environment.

Dean Livesey, Director of HR at Hall & Woodhouse, said: “We are delighted to be launching our Chef Apprenticeship Scheme in partnership with Bournemouth & Poole College. We believe this apprenticeship programme provides a pathway to an exciting and rewarding career in the hospitality sector. Our apprentices will have the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification whilst gaining valuable on the job experience. As a family business it is important to us to provide career opportunities for young people within our communities and this scheme is just one example of our ongoing commitment to this.”

Matt Butcher, Commercial Director of Bournemouth & Poole College, added: “The College is really excited to work with the apprentices and the team at Hall & Woodhouse. The careers and training on offer are of an excellent standard, and it’s great that the apprentices are already making amazing progress after one week. Finding young talent is essential for all businesses and having a major employer like Hall & Woodhouse commit to apprenticeships is terrific.”
