As part of its strategy to work with younger people in the region, the management team from the Dolphin Shopping Centre have partnered with newly formed social enterprise, Destination Education Group (DE), which aims to support schools locally.
The Dolphin Centre has sponsored the ‘My’ Team programme and will deliver a series of team based challenges where students will experience the reality of working as a team to achieve a common goal; tackling issues such as communication, problem solving and negotiation.
The programme that’s being offered to Lytchett Minster School, Magna Academy, Corfe Hills School, Poole High School, St.Aldhelm’s Academy and St.Edwards School, will provide students with the tools and techniques to develop the skills that will help them to be an effective team member.
The partnership began at the start of September, and Dolphin centre manager, John Grinnell, has already had the opportunity to return to school and experience first-hand today’s teenage school life.
Commenting on the scheme, John said: “With the younger community of Poole and Bournemouth being a significant demographic to our shopper profile, we are committed to supporting programmes that help nurture and inspire local students to be successful in their future careers. Working with Destination Education is a new venture for us and the ‘My’ Team programme will give students the opportunity to learn what makes a team player.”
Destination Education offers a range of programmes focusing on employability skills such as career planning, team-work and interview technique. The students are led through a range of exercises and discussions to explore their aspirations for the future, supported by materials, videos and music.
