Since announcing Margaret Green Animal Rescue as one of its charities of the year, the Dolphin Shopping Centre has begun a collection for pet food to donate to the local rehoming centre.

The food donation has been well received by shoppers, with more than £200 worth of food already collected for the charity. A stand located in the shopping centre mall has been prepared for donations to be made. Additionally, Wilko’s are also partnering with the pet food appeal, with three donations baskets located within the store.

Kate Cross, fundraising officer for Margaret Green Animal Rescue, said: “These donations are vital to our animal rescue efforts and the way in which we can support all of our animals.

“Every year Margaret Green Animal Rescue cares for more than 1,200 animals, many of which have been abandoned, and it is so important that we are able to provide for those in need. It’s brilliant to see that the Dolphin Shopping Centre has already begun its efforts to collect food donations, in already raising more than £200, their collection has truly taken off.”

Dolphin centre manager, John Grinnell said: “As an owner of two dogs myself, I realise how important these donations will be to Margaret Green Animal Rescue. Any animal food items, big or small, will go a tremendous distance towards helping the charity and its wonderful work to rehome animals in need.”

He added: “It’s brilliant to have Wilko’s on-board with the collection, with shoppers being able to deposit their items here or in the Centre itself.”

Margaret Green Animal Rescue, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year was chosen alongside Julia’s House as the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s chosen charities of 2015.
