With a rise in the popularity of home baking, fuelled by shows such as The Great British Bake Off, Wave 105’s charity, Cash for Kids, is calling on its supporters and listeners to take part in its ‘Big Bake’ event which will take place from 12 to 18 September.
Supported by Southampton-based WAD Appliances, the charity is encouraging individuals, businesses and schools from across the region to dust off their food mixers, don their aprons and register to get involved in its Big Bake week to cook up a storm and raise money for Wave 105 Cash for Kids.
From cupcakes to pies, shortbread to snickerdoodles, participants will have the opportunity to show off their culinary skills by organising a bake sale in a workplace, community centre or even a school hall.
The Wave 105 presenters and news team, including Steve Power, Simon Clarke, Charlotte Butt and Liz Allaway, will also be taking part in the fundraising event and on 18 September, chef Andy Mackenzie from the Lainston House Hotel in Winchester will judge the team’s cakes together with five other judges made up of Wave 105 listeners. The judges will decide who has created the best bake.
Wave 105’s charity manager, Gloria Hill, said: “Our Big Bake event will be a fantastic opportunity for people to get involved with something fun for charity. Lots of local businesses have signed up already including Webster’s Doggie Delights in Bournemouth who are set to bake and sell muffins and donuts for dogs. Our listeners have also already helped to raise more than £900 through bidding for places on our judging panel for September 18. Every penny raised through this event really will make a difference to the lives of local children.”
