Organisers of the world’s leading 10 mile running event have announced Wave 105 as the official commercial radio partner for the eighth year running.

Attracting 25,000 runners each year, Portsmouth’s popular Great South Run has extended its partnership with the south’s leading radio station for the next three years.

The Great South Run is part of the Great Run series – the UK’s biggest mass participation running series. Taking place on Sunday October 23, the renowned race leads runners along a scenic route around Portsmouth and Southsea, taking in the iconic sights of the Historic Dockyard and the seafront. The weekend includes the Great South Run 5K and the Junior and Mini Great South Runs on Saturday October 22.

David Hart at The Great Run Company said: “The team at Wave 105’s unwavering enthusiasm over the past few years for promoting and participating in the Great South Run has contributed to the overall success of the event. We are delighted to have the south’s leading radio station on board to help motivate runners and bring news of the 2016 event to listeners across the region.”

Broadcasting live from the event, the radio station will bring listeners a flavour of the atmosphere and all the live action as it happens.

Wave 105 will host the Wall of Sound – an area of motivational and uplifting music near the nine mile marker along the seafront – to encourage the runners for the last mile. The team there will be handing out a vital sugar boost of free jelly baby treats to give participants a final push.

Wave 105 commercial director Jon Brooks added: “Various Wave 105 presenters have taken up the challenge in previous years, including Mark Collins, Rick Jackson, Michael Coombes and Liz Allaway, plus members from our commercial team. We are looking forward to joining the ranks of the runners for 2016 and spurring participants on from the Wave 105 Wall of Sound.”

A number of places are still available for those interested in running for Wave 105’s charity, Cash for Kids. Further details can be found on www.wave105.com/charity
