The Bournemouth & Poole College is hosting an open event on Thursday June 15 from 4pm at both of its sites in Lansdowne in Bournemouth and North Road in Poole.
School leavers and adult learners are encouraged to attend the event to find out about A-Levels, apprenticeships, higher education and full and part-time courses that are available to study at The College.
As continued supporters of the Festival of Learning, which runs nationally from 19 – 25 June, The College will be taking part in ‘Have a Go’ month to encourage people to try something different and learn a new skill. A series of taster sessions will be on offer to adults attending the event at both sites ranging from teaching training tasks, to using marine navigation equipment and participating in cooking sessions.
Tours of The College’s £28millon facilities will be running throughout the event at both locations including the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) centre.
The College’s Careers Advice and Guidance Team will also be on hand to provide Matrix Standard advice as well as curriculum staff and current students. Local employers from various different sectors will also be present to talk to prospective students about the apprenticeships they offer through The College. In particular representatives from the digital and creative industry will be at the Lansdowne site as The College is launching digital marketing apprenticeships with both new and existing employers within this industry. Representatives include LoveLove Film, Greenwood Campbell, Thinking Juice and Createful, among others.
Antony Wright, director of learning, higher education, digital and business at The Bournemouth & Poole College, said: ‘‘It is important for us to continue to take part and support the Festival of Learning as it is a national campaign to raise awareness of adult learning in England. By combining our open event with the national festival we are able to highlight the benefits of adult education and therefore encourage lifelong learning.’’
