Wave 105’s evening presenter, Andy Jackson, recently rode 100 miles to raise funds for the radio station’s charity, Cash for Kids. This mammoth challenge was part of Andy’s fundraising activities, ahead of his trek along the Great Wall of China later this month.
Andy cycled the 100 miles on a bike kindly donated by Velocity Bikes of Portsmouth which was used on a turbo trainer. To motivate him in his challenge, The Solent Hotel leant the Wave 105 team two static bikes so listeners could join in and support Andy on the day. All the action took place in Whitely Shopping Centre.
Gloria Hill, charity manager of Wave 105 Cash for Kids, says: “Andy did so well and completed the ride in five and a half hours, raising more than £300 for our charity. It was great to see listeners joining in throughout the day too; all the encouragement certainly seemed to spur Andy on!
“The bike, which was kindly given to us by Velocity Bikes, will be auctioned off through our annual Wave 105 Cash for Kids charity auction on October 10. All the money raised through this challenge and via our auction will help children throughout the south who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.”
Andy Jackson, Wave 105 evening presenter, said: “On behalf of myself and the Wave 105 team, I’d like to say a big thank you to Velocity Bikes, The Solent Hotel and of course Whitely Shopping Centre, where all the action happened. I can’t forget our listeners too; they were brilliant and really got involved. This is a good little test for me, as I’m pretty sure the Great Wall of China is going to prove even more challenging!”
Andy, his colleague Suzy, along with some brave Wave 105 listeners, will leave for China on August 29 where they will spend nine days trekking 5,500 miles along the Great Wall. To support Andy in his challenge call 01489 481082 or donate online at www.wave105.com/cashforkids quoting Andy’s Trek.
