Wave 105 presenter Rick Jackson took listeners on a really wild day out to Marwell Zoo

Wave 105 took listeners on a really wild day out to Marwell Zoo and managed to raise more than £700 for its Cash for Kids charity.

Wave 105 presenter Rick Jackson picked up the 35 listeners in his double decker bus, courtesy of Stagecoach, from various collection points across the Portsmouth area and chauffeured them in style to the zoo.

Paul Simmons, head of marketing communications at Marwell, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Wave 105 listeners to Marwell and introduce them to our resident animals while raising money for a worthy cause.”

The visitors wandered around the centre looking at the wildlife before sitting down to enjoy a picnic while Nikki at Marwell explained the conservation work that is carried out by the zoo.

Steve Thorpe, marketing officer at Stagecoach South, said: “We were delighted to once again have the opportunity to provide a double decker bus for the ‘Big Bus Day out’ to Marwell, continuing our support for the Wave 105 Cash for Kids charity.  All of the passengers had a great day out and were thrilled to be picked up by a Wave 105 presenter, Rick Jackson, who I have to say did a superb job of driving our double decker bus!”

Gloria Hill, charity manager of Wave 105 Cash for Kids, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Stagecoach for lending us the double decker bus and to Marwell Zoo for giving us the tickets for the event. It was a fabulous day, seeing all the wildlife and learning about the work that Marwell does to conserve these beautiful beasts, while raising money for disadvantaged kids across the region.”

Wave 105 Cash for Kids is committed to supporting local children under the age of 18, who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.  The charity also encourages healthy lifestyle options by promoting physical, mental and general wellbeing of children and adolescents specifically within the Wave 105 region.
