Isle of Wight based charity, Challenge and Adventure, is thrilled to have received a £5,000 grant from Wave 105’s charity, Cash for Kids. The money will go towards funding the ‘Wilderness Challenge’ which the Challenge and Adventure team run every year for disadvantaged children on the island.
Challenge and Adventure was set up in 1992 to support less fortunate young people, and those with demanding behaviours, on the Isle of Wight. The charity uses adventurous and inspiring outdoor activities alongside tailored support, to encourage children to improve their self-confidence, self-esteem and their aspirations. The charity’s aim is to help young people to re-engage at school, home and in the wider community to get their lives back on track.
The annual ‘Wilderness Challenge’ sees a group of eight young people trekking across Scotland’s rugged landscape without any everyday luxuries or contact with home.
Phil Wells, assistant project manager from Challenge and Adventure, said: “The aim of our annual challenge is to show these youngsters that they can achieve anything they put their minds to. By taking part in both a physically and mentally demanding event, they learn to deal with many of the issues they may be facing, and the life skills they learn are invaluable. We are absolutely thrilled with the extremely generous donation from Wave 105 Cash for Kids, the money has helped us to fund our trip.”
Wave 105 Cash for Kids charity manager, Gloria Hill, said: “The Challenge and Adventure team do some fantastic work with vulnerable young people and really help to turn their lives around. Huge thanks to our loyal listeners and supporters for enabling us to award this grant.”
