Hall & Woodhouse team members take on gruelling challenges in support of National Air Ambulance Week

Hall & Woodhouse team members from across the south have collectively raised over £6,000 for local Air Ambulance charities in September by taking part in an abseil down Spinnaker Tower and the Thames Path Challenge, in support of National Air Ambulance Week.

30 team members from 10 different Hall & Woodhouse pubs took part in the nerve-racking 170 metre descent of the Spinnaker Tower, with The Lulworth Cove Inn, The Crown Hotel in Blandford and The Old Granary in Wareham all participating in the challenge.

In additional a group of six team and family members took on the Thames Path Challenge, a 100km trek from Putney Bridge to Henley. Two of the team bravely completed the full 100km challenge and between them raising £1,200 for the local Air Ambulance charities.

Lucinda Gray, Next Generation Family Director and Company Relationship Manager at Hall & Woodhouse, said: “I am so proud of the team spirit and camaraderie that I have seen throughout both these challenges. We had team members overcoming their fear of heights and overcoming fatigue and blisters all in order to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity partner, which is truly inspiring. When it costs £3,000 for each Air Ambulance mission, every penny really does count.”

Eight Air Ambulance charities were voted by Hall & Woodhouse’s team members at the start of 2018 as the company’s official charity partner until 2020, including Devon, Dorset and Somerset, Great Western, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Kent Surrey Sussex, London, Thames Valley and Wiltshire. The family owned company has now raised over £200,000 to date, with less than £50,000 remaining to reach its ultimate target of £250,000 over its two-year partnership.

Tracy Bartram, Communications Manager at Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, added: “Working with Hall & Woodhouse throughout this two-year partnership has been nothing but a fantastic experience. The fundraising that the team undertake is multi-varied and constant. They are enthusiastic and an absolute pleasure for all our eight charities to work with. So many Hall & Woodhouse representatives have taken part in the Spinnaker Tower abseil, which shows how dedicated they all are”.

“I would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who is supporting our eight air ambulance charities, not only during National Air Ambulance Week, but throughout the whole year. No matter the amount, every penny raised really does make a huge difference to the patients who need us.”

Hall & Woodhouse has raised more than £800,000 for charity over the past seven years through its different initiatives. The company is committed to supporting the local communities across the south of England and is continually looking for new ways to give back to its guests.

Hall & Woodhouse raises un-bee-lievable donation for Dorset Wildlife Trust campaign

Hall & Woodhouse, the leading independent family-owned Dorset brewer, has raised more than £3,000 for Dorset Wildlife Trust’s ‘Get Dorset Buzzing’ campaign.

From May to July, Hall & Woodhouse donated 5p from every pint sold of its seasonal Badger Cask Beer, Brewer’s Bee, to the local campaign raising awareness about the declining number of pollinators in the county. Brewer’s Bee is a classic golden tawny brew containing real honey which comes through in the floral aroma.

The popular seasonal ale has been available for guests to enjoy in Hall & Woodhouse’s pubs throughout the south this summer. It raised more than £3,000 for Dorset Wildlife Trust.

Sally Cooper, Corporate Development Officer of Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “We are delighted to receive the donation and would like to thank Hall & Woodhouse for supporting our campaign. A special thanks also to everyone in the community who bought a pint of Brewer’s Bee this summer, which has helped raise money for Dorset Wildlife Trust.

“We truly appreciate the support and enthusiasm the team at Badger has shown us and we very much look forward to continuing our partnership throughout the rest of the year. Fundraising initiatives such as this mean we can continue to protect Dorset’s wildlife and keep Dorset buzzing.”

To coincide with the Brewer’s Bee fundraising, team members from the brewery have also given up their time to volunteer on practical conservation tasks, with more planned for later in the year.

Rachel Burleigh, Assistant Brand Manager for Badger Beer, added: “We are so grateful for Dorset’s communities that have helped raise a tremendous amount of money for Dorset Wildlife Trust, while enjoying our light and refreshing beer this summer. We are proud to have been part of the Trust’s biggest campaign to date that will protect our county’s wildlife and nature reserves for many generations to come.”

Grace tell us her thoughts on her work experience placement at Liz Lean PR

Grace tell us her thoughts on her work experience placement at Liz Lean PR

Before I embark on my final year at Bournemouth University to conclude my PR degree, I had the opportunity to undertake a week-long work experience placement at Liz Lean PR. During my placement I gained a huge amount of industry knowledge and it has definitely reiterated that PR is the career for me. I was given the opportunity to engage in daily activities such as writing press releases, pitching to top fashion magazines and preparing social media posts for relevant clients.

As I will be entering the ‘adult’ working life in just over a year’s time I knew it was important for me to experience all the different aspects of PR. The variety of tasks that I was given ensured that I was able to explore all the individual clients and learn how they differ.

The team were extremely welcoming and put me at ease straight away. Every task was briefed to me in detail and even from only being there a week, I feel I contributed to the company. The office had such a friendly, warm atmosphere which meant I was not afraid to ask questions and Shona was always on hand to ensure I was managing the work and had something to do.

I would like to thank the whole team at Liz Lean PR for a warm welcome and for the opportunity to gain some valuable knowledge that I will take with me into my final year and my future career in PR.
