What is PR?
Good question. We get asked it a lot.
The fact is, PR has changed. Old school PR was all about column inches. Send a press release to a bunch of journalists, hope that they’ll write about it in a positive way. Job done.
That’s not enough any more. The media landscape has changed. Today’s PR professionals need broader skills. They have to operate at a faster pace and be far more proactive. 21st century PR is all about having great contacts and managing relationships. Tasks include social media management, blogger relations, strategic reputation management, product placement, event management, B2B communications, stakeholder engagement etc etc. The remit is wide.
Traditional PR routes are still critical – good old-fashioned dialogue with key, opinion-forming journalists is still very much a core skill and an every day activity – but the mix with digital and broader marketing activities ensures campaign success and client ROI. That’s the bottom line.
Five reasons why Liz Lean PR is different:
One: It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Actually, scrap that. It’s what you know plus who you know. Our local knowledge is second to none. We know the right people. Journalists, public servants, creatives, entrepreneurs, charities, celebrities. It’s our job to know who’s who and who does what.
Second big difference: Enthusiasm. We bubble with enthusiasm. We love what we do. We love meeting people. We love challenges. We love solving puzzles. Coming up with new ideas. Organising events. Introducing people. Making connections. Most of all, we love happy clients. Of course, every PR says they care about clients. The difference is, we care with knobs on.
Difference three: We tell it like it is. If you’re straight with us, we’ll be straight with you. Trust us. Take our advice. Employ us for our expertise, just as you would employ an accountant, a solicitor or an IT consultant.
Fourth: We’re quite rounded in terms of experience. This team brings hugely experienced PR professionals and former journalists together – and we come from a variety of backgrounds. The one thing we share is an academic grounding in PR. It helps us look beyond the obvious.
Finally, number five: The sea. Being by the sea makes a difference. It really does. Visit us in Sandbanks and we defy you not to pick up on the positive ions streaming in from the beach. All that ozone keeps us fresh, buoyant and upbeat. And in PR, being positive is everything.
