The First Lady of Football shared her vast experience of being a woman in the world of business with captivated guests, for the finale in a series of exclusive events (Editor's Breakfast and A Taste of Tomorrow) to celebrate the launch of the Centre. In the Q&A session that followed, Karren spoke of the new challenges she faces this year as the new vice-chairman of West Ham United and Lord Alan Sugar's right-hand woman on The Apprentice. But beforehand she said of the Centre itself; “It’s super isn’t it. I spent every summer holiday in Bournemouth from the age of about four, when we could first afford coming on holiday, until about 12, so I’ve got some really fond memories of Bournemouth.
“But, of course, it’s changed dramatically and no more so than the University and, of course, the Business School, which is so important.”
Professor Thomas Lange, Dean of the Business School, took the opportunity to share his vision for the future of the Business School and the positive impact this will have on businesses in the region and beyond. As the new home of the Business School, the Executive Business Centre delivers a range of executive education programmes, including the Bournemouth MBA and postgraduate education. Based in the heart of Bournemouth town centre, this impressive building has been purpose built for business and offers the latest in bespoke business accommodation.
At the end of the evening guests explored the contemporary facilities while networking with some of the South's most influential business leaders, councillors, professionals, media and industry figureheads.
Professor Lange said: “BU's investment in this exceptional building increases the opportunities to engage and develop with our region's business community. We are delighted to host this event which offered insights into this successful businesswoman, who has seen so many achievements in the world of Business and is an inspirational figure with her pioneering, fresh approach to business.”
